What a hot tub costs to run in Texas.
Updated October 2026 · By the Lone Star Spas team in Texas

At Texas residential electric rates of about 15 to 16 cents per kWh, a well-insulated, covered hot tub usually adds roughly $30 to $60 a month to your electric bill, less in summer and more in the few cold weeks of winter.
The math
Your bill is energy used times your rate. Most of a hot tub's energy goes to holding temperature, so insulation and the cover matter more than anything else. In Texas, summer air is often warmer than the water, so the heater barely runs.
| Season | Typical use | Estimated monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| June to September | Heater rarely runs | $20 to $35 |
| October to May | Mixed | $35 to $55 |
| Freeze week | Heater works hardest | Higher for that week |
Estimates for a covered 82 to 92 inch tub at 15 to 16 cents per kWh. Model-specific figures coming from the manufacturer.
How to keep it low
- Keep the cover on and latched. It does most of the work.
- Lower the set point in summer. Many Texans run 85 to 92 degrees from June to September.
- Run filtration cycles at night if your plan has cheaper overnight rates.
- Shade the tub from afternoon sun to keep the cover in good shape.
